The church of Bonfim is located in an area called High Holy Hill. It was built in 1772 in praise to the Lord of Bonfim, patron saint of Bahia. Part of its facade and its interior are partially constructed of tiles brought from portugal. In addition to its main altar, the church has become famous for the Room of Miracles, space that houses replicas of heads, arms, legs and other body parts made of wood, wax, plastic besides gold and silver, left by the faithful that afford have been cured of diseases in those parts of the body.
Moreover, the Church of Bonfim is known for its washing stairs, religious and profane act that unites both devotees of Catholicism as of Candomblé.
